feng-shoehorn (v., portmanteau of feng shui and shoehorn): the process that takes place in nearly every musical theatre pit during tech week, when the musicians of the orchestra find incrementally more satisfying arrangements of their equipment in a very limited space, approaching (yet never quite reaching) some kind of socio-spatial perfection.
